Indian companies are cautiously welcoming their employees back even as companies across the world are stick to remote work. Several companies are experimenting with hybrid models of work including alternate days work shifts, weekly rotational system and bringing shifts in the work culture.
Where GSK, a pharmaceuticals company, has allowed around 30 per cent of its employees to come back to the office, e-commerce giant Flipkart has permitted remote working to employees till May 31, 2021. The firm has also allowed employees willing to get back to the office to avail a "seat-booking" model, controlling the number of staff per floor and maintenance of social distancing.
On the other hand, ITC has provided its employees a choice to get back to the office and FMCG has a staggered transition on cards after the vaccination drives. It has been reported that at Titan, four out of 10 employees are working from home while the remaining staff work at the office on a rotational model.
Automobile giants TVS Motors and Ashok Leyland have resorted to a flexible-working system in which the staff has been asked to join office on alternate days with the provision of transportation.
Many industry leaders have questioned the move of asking employees to come back to offices with concerns being raised on whether the company will take the responsibility in case an employee gets infected as they may jeopardise their family members whom they come in contact. Others have spoken about the problem of working parents who do not have the means to hire nannies for their children whose schools are still not open.
